PTFE Ram Extrusion Line

A ram extruder is an extruder where, instead of extrusion screw, a ram or plunger is used . The ram extruder was the earliest extruder to be used in the plastics industry. This typical process is applied for producing profiles, sleeves, rod, block, tubing, lining sheet bars, etc. The ram extrusion process is very effective for specific materials like PTFE which are not extruded successfully using screw extruder.

In this process plastic material in powder form is gravity fed into a chamber. In the extrudating chamber the resin powder is heated on sintering temperature. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, becomes gelatinous as it melts so it can be extruded with this type of processes. A hydraulic ram pushes the resin materials like PTFE, UHMW, etc. from the chamber to the die. The die actually gives the shape of the desired plastic like a rod, tube or a profile shape with the requisite internal or outer diameter. When the material comes out of the die, it moves the length of the conveyor. The profiles can be manufactured endlessly and cut by the continuous extruding of each length.
Types of Machines:
There are two types of ram extrusions- the vertical ram extrusion and the horizontal ram extrusion. Whatever be the type of ram extrusion, the resin feed, compaction or performing, sintering and cooling are all the same. But the extrudates quality depends on various parameter like the design of the extruder, powder properties, extrusion rate, pressure and temperature.

PTFE is widely used in a variety of needs, such as: anti-acid and organic solvents, which itself has no toxic to people, but one of the raw materials used in the production process of ammonium perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) is considered likely to have a carcinogenic effect.
Large relative molecular of PTFE, the lower one as hundreds of thousands, while higher one can up to one million or more (degree of polymerization of 104 orders of magnitude, while the polyethylene only 103). Degree of crystallinity is generally 90 to 95%, a melting temperature of 327 ~ 342 ℃. Molecule CF2 unit in PTFE arrange by zigzag shape, because the fluorine atom radius larger than the hydrogen, so the adjacent CF2 units can not cross exactly trans orientation, but form a spiral twisted chain, fluorine atom covering almost the entire polymer chain surface. This molecular structure explains various properties of PTFE. At temperatures below than 19 ℃ to form 13/6 helix; phase transition at 19 ℃, slightly unravel the molecular to form 15/7 helix.
Though the perfluorocarbon carbon – carbon bond and carbon – fluorine bonds are broken need to absorb energy 346.94 and 484.88kJ/mol, but PTFE depolymerization energy generate 1mol tetrafluoroethylene only need 171.38kJ. So in the pyrolysis, PTFE mainly depolymerizate tetrafluoroethylene. PTFE at 260,370 and 420 ℃ the weight loss rate (%) were 1×10-4, 4×10-3 and 9×10-2 per hour.

PTFE Plastic Molding Machine


Since PTFE will not flow above its melting point, it cannot be injection molded and requires special processing techniques. Molded PTFE is processed by first compression molding the powder into preforms, and then sintering the preforms in a process analogous to sintered metal processing. This process creates geometric shapes that can then be machined, fused, and/or welded.
Product Description for Automatic Molding:
Automatic molding, a semi-automated form of compression molding, is the process Sunkoo uses for the manufacture of medium-volume to large-volume net molded and near net molded PTFE components. The automatic molding process requires dedicated tooling, typically requires minimal operator intervention and plastic parts can be fabricated relatively rapidly.
With the use of precise tooling and processing, parts manufactured using the automatic molding process can be produced to relatively close tolerances, but not to the accuracy of a fully machined part. Components are economically molded by utilizing a process of automated filling of the die cavity, applying pressure, and part ejection.
Other advantages of the Automatic molding process include:
·         Little or no scrap material as compared to the "typical" PTFE machining process from stock shapes (rod or tube)
·         Lower part cost, with minimal or sometimes no machining steps required
·         Components that are molded and sintered into final forms and shapes have reduced stress defects compared to machined parts (from cutting, milling, etc.)

PTFE Film Skiving Machine Application
1. Main Driving Part: Taiwan AC motor with inverter is employed. The acceleration and the deceleration are fast and steady.
2. Central Control Unit: programmable central control is used and various sizes (20 at most)
can be set on the same shaft for automatic transfer and cutting.
3. Operating Panel: all functions are operated on the 10.4" Taiwan WeinView LCD touch panel.
4. Motor Control System: the central control system is PLC programmable controller. Various sizes
can be set on the same shaft, and the cutting width is adjusted automatically.
5. Roll Cutting Positioning System: roll cutting positioning is controlled by Mitsubishi servo motor.
The imported high precision ball screw is applied to set the size and the linear slide rail is to bear.the load of the cutter seat.
6. Blade Feeding Positioning System: blade feeding is controlled by Mitsubishi servo motor, and the cutting speed is adjustable in three stages. The efficiency is improved and the best quality is guaranteed.
7. Auto Angle Adjustment of Circular Blade: Mitsubishi servo motor is used to calculate the circular
blade angle and the angle change is subject to different materials (the angle change range is ±8°).
