The application of UHMWPE

The molecular chain length of UHMWPE is 10 ~ 20 times that of hdpe. The main advantages of longer molecular chains (higher molecular weight) give UHMWPE are toughness, wear resistance and resistance to stress cracking. Because it is a kind of polyethylene, UHMWPE also has lubricity, chemical resistance and general purpose HDPE excellent electrical properties.

Long molecular chains make materials difficult to process in common moulding and extrusion equipment. When heated above the melting point, UHMWPE becomes transparent but does not flow.Chemical and performance UHMWPE is produced by ziegler polymerization. The process requires a particularly high degree of purity, ethylene monomer impurity control in a few parts per million. The product is a white powder with a particle size similar to that of table salt.

UHMWPE is used for low speed bearing housing. Low friction coefficient is further reduced by adding siloxane, aluminum disulfide, graphite and special paraffin wax. In the food processing industry, UHMWPE self-lubricity, easy purification, low flavor gas/flavor transmission and boiling water resistance are used. Has met FDA and USDA requirements for use in food, water, and pharmaceutical industries. Some of the USES of UHMWPE are based on its noise absorption and shock absorption. If UHMWPE is needed, dye can be used for coloring, while pigments are slightly inferior.

The combination of chemical resistance and surface smoothness has many applications. For food processing industry, UHMWPE is used as the surface material of meat cutting board. UHMWPE is used as contact surface and roller for processing food and medicine conveyors. It has the properties of self-lubricating, resistance to boiling water and resistance to chemical cleaner.

Properties and applications of UHMWPE Rod

1.       Product characteristics of UHMWPE Rod

Excellent abrasion resistance, good resistance to low temperature impact, self-lubricity, non-toxic, water and chemical resistance, heat resistance is better than general PE, disadvantages are heat resistance (thermal deformation temperature) low, poor processing and molding, surface hardness, rigidity, creep resistance as general engineering plastics, expansion coefficient larger. UHMWPE has poor fluidity and extremely high viscosity in the molten state. It is a rubber-like high-viscosity elastomer. At the early stage, it can only be molded by pressing and sintering methods.

Higher mechanical properties than ordinary high density polyethylene. Excellent impact resistance, stress cracking resistance, high temperature creep resistance, low friction coefficient, self-lubrication resistance, excellent chemical corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, noise damping resistance, nuclear radiation resistance, etc.

The operating temperature is 100 ~ 110.Good cold resistance, can be used at -269.The product has a density of 0.935g/cm3 and a molecular weight of 2 million. Its tensile strength at break is 40MPa, elongation at break is 350%, elastic modulus at bending is 600MPa, and the cantilever beam is constantly impinged by the gap. Abrasion (MPC method)20mm.

2.       Application field of uhmwpe rod
Uhmpe bar can replace carbon steel, stainless steel, bronze and other materials for textile, paper making, food machinery, transportation, medical treatment, coal mine, chemical industry and other sectors. Such as textile industry on the shuttle, shuttle rod, gear, coupling, sweeping rod, buffer block, eccentric block, rod sleeve, swing consequences and other impact wear resistant parts. Paper industry to do box cover plate, wiper plate, compression parts, joints, transmission machinery seal shaft, deflector wheel, scraper, filter, etc. The lining of hoppers, silos and chutes for powdery materials in the transport industry.

UHMW-PE Roller Features & Application

UHMWPE is a linear polyethylene with a molecular weight more than 3 million. It is an outstanding plastic with the best self lubrication, impact absorbing properties and the highest resistance to abrasion, impact, chemicals of any thermoplastics polymer. It is regarded as an amazing material, and the new material will grow fast and be widely used.

1、Abrasion resistance and long life
The shell is made from UHMWPE which has abrasion resistance 10 times that of HDPE and 7 times that of steel. UHMWPE roller
have been subjected to continuous abrasion in very extreme quarrying, coastal and industrial applications.
2、Impact resistance and Impact energy absorbing
UHMWPE has the highest impact strength of any engineering plastics, about three times which of nylon, two times that of PC, five times that of ABS, withstands repeated impaction, even at -196 it is tough, together with its superior abrasion and corrosion resistance. UHMW-PE has made itself ideally suited for industrial applications in complicate and rough environments.
3、Effective sealing system
The primary labyrinth seal prevents most of the dust to get into the bearing house, and no water could leak in. The narrow
clearance between bearing house and shaft forms the second sealing, the bearing house are made of UHMWPE which has a
very low surface energy and are anti-adhesion, so it is repulsive to dust and water. It is quite difficulty for dust to get through the
narrow channel

even in case of roller be stopped.

UHMWPE is a much better noise debase material than HDPE, UHMWPE rollers generate much less noise than conventional
steel roller, they are environmentally friendly
7、Corrosion resistance
UHMWPE roller can withstand humidity, corrosive chemicals, acids, salt and alkalis.
8、No sticking
UHMWPE could not be sticked by any material, so no conveyor material will be sticked to roller surface.
9、Machined face

The labyrinth cap could be put back easily for clearing dust on line without take off the roller.

UHMW-PE Rod Properties & Applications

UHMW-PE is a super engineering plastic that is probably not as well known as some other engineering plastics but can out perform its relatives in a number of important areas. UHMW (aka UHMW-PE) offers a combination of excellent properties – outstanding abrasion resistance, superior impact resistance, non-sticking and self-lubricating properties and excellent mechanical properties, even in cryogenic conditions. UHMW product reduces noise from impact & vibration. It is a self-lubricating material that is chemical, corrosion, and wear-resistant. And it’s food safe. The weight is light, the proportion is 1/8 of the rolled steel. Life is higher than steel. The wear resistance is 3 to 7 times of carbon steel and stainless steel.

UHMWPE Rod

UHMWPE rod is an amazing engineering plastic which can solve many problems that other engineering plastics cannot. UHMWPE Rod is not as well-known as other plastics but is still highly important and has clear advantages over other more common engineering plastics.
Because UHMWPE rod has excellent abrasion resistance it is often used for sand, gravel or aggregate process applications. These environments are incredibly harsh on any bearing material but UHMWPE is one of the few engineering plastics capable of withstanding such punishing abuse.

UHMWPE Rod can also be used for low friction pulleys because of its very low co-efficient provides a bearing medium that is very free running and exceptionally long lasting. It is often found in food production environments where high volumes of containers need to be guided along conveyors or production lines. Because it has very low moisture absorption, it is also found in some high demand areas of marine applications. It’s sometimes used in some cryogenic components due to its low operating temperature abilities.

Because of its resistance to wear and impact, UHMWPE continues to find increasing industrial applications, including the automotive and bottling sectors. Since the 1960s, it has also been the most commonly used material for total joint arthroplasty in orthopaedic and spine implants.

Application for UHMWPE Rod:

  • UHMWPE rod is usually chosen for it's low co-efficient of friction and so means it will produce bearings, bushes or pulleys that are highly free running, low friction and durable
  • UHMWPE rod is also remarkably abrasive resistant. Therefore the UHMWPE rod can be used in high demand environments such as grit or gravel and have a longer life span when compared to other materials
  • UHMWPE rod can often be used in high demand components in the food industry because it has a very low moisture absorption. UHMWPE rod has FDA approval and means that bearings etc. will not expand due to any moisture absorption
  • UHMWPE rod is used in the marine industry for pulleys because of its low friction and minimal moisture absorption
